Summer at the museum

Summer activities for everyone

The summer season is from 15 June to 15 August. During this period, we will be open Monday to Sunday, from 10.00 - 16.00.

We will post more individual activities as summer approaches, but you can take part in these activities every day during opening hours from the 15th of June:

Trails:
Try Rainbow Bingo, a clue trail in My Stavanger for older kids, and a playful discovery trail at the Children's Museum.

Activity Room

Starting Saturday, June 21, the children's café will be transformed into an activity room for the entire school holiday. Each table will have its own activity, with something fun to do for everyone in the family.

One table is set up for playing with the bird cards, and another for coloring and folding fun shapes and animals.

Historical games in the museum park

Right outside Stavanger Museum, the Cultural History Playground invites you to play and have fun — across both ages and eras! Here, you can try 15 different games and activities from a variety of time periods. Some go all the way back to the Stone Age, others were popular in the Middle Ages, and some date from the 1700s, 1800s, and 1900s.

Names and rules have changed over time. Maybe you've played something similar before — just in a slightly different way? What all these games have in common is that they come from a time when life moved a little slower. You could play anywhere, without worrying about traffic or needing to book a gym.

These games were just as much for adults as for kids, and were often played during holidays and celebrations. The goal? To trick each other, be a little silly, laugh — and most of all, to have fun!

The park is a collaborative project between the Norwegian Children’s Museum and Stavanger School Museum.

The park is open every day for play and exploration.
